This striking vintage Samarkand rug from 1948 is a masterclass in the exuberant fusion of East and West that defines Khotan weaving. Hand-knotted in East Turkestan, this piece radiates with the vibrancy and individuality characteristic of mid-20th century Samarkand production.
A stunning lavender field sets the stage for a profusion of stylized floral motifs and symbolic iconography. At the center, an eye-catching medallion bordered in serrated zigzag motifs offers a kaleidoscopic effect with its concentric geometric forms in brown, orange, pink, and ivory.
