About the Item
A fine and small rug from the Tekke Turkmen tribe, located close to the border with the northeastern Persian province of Khorassan. The rugs of this tribe have always been highly prized in the west, and were avidly collected at the beginning of the 20th century as status symbols of wealth and aristocracy. Originally labelled as 'Boukara', these rugs are typically decorated by parallel rows of octagonal devices called 'guls', alternated in offset rows by secondary geometric elements. This design, which came to known at the time as 'the Gentleman's pattern', is invariably set against a mahogany red background, and is rendered with extreme precision by employing the finest grade of wool, allowing for a very high knot density.
A classic antique oriental rug of great quality and durability, which can be employed as the perfect accent in any room setting.
