About the Item
‘Suzani’ meaning ‘needle’ so ‘needle work ‘ in Persian, refgers to a group of embroideries mainly done in Central Asia, in countries such as, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan. Suzanies in todays textile literature are named after the place they were made in, Bukhara, Tashkent, Pishkent, Nurata, Ura Tube etc.. Each region had its own color pallete as well as a design pool. They were mainly made for the walls, as decorative items for the home. The technique is used for some prayer mats, cradle covers, horse covers etc. In modern life setting, they could still make a statement on a wall, could be used as bed covers, throws, sofa covers.
