It was named after the Anglo-Swiss company Ziegler & Co. based in Manchester. In contrast to the more colorful rugs of earlier eras, Ziegler rugs were made in softer and often lighter tones. The knot density was medium fine, the wool quality very good. Today, original Ziegler carpets are sought-after. Ziegler carpets are currently being knotted in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India and are sold under the following names: Ziegler Carpet, Ziegler Farahan, Ziegler Mahal and Ziegler Ariana. The designs are often based on the originals, the colors are often reduced to a few shades within a carpet.
