This extraordinary textile, measuring 190 × 122 cm, is a rare and well-preserved example of Ottoman artistry from the Banja Luka region in the Balkans, dating likely to the late 19th. Woven as a decorative Ottoman prayer textile or wall hanging, this piece embodies a confluence of religious, artistic, and cultural elements unique to the Balkan-Ottoman period. At the center, a delicately rendered mihrab (prayer niche) rises gracefully into an arched form, framed by an exquisite composition of blooming vases, stylized floral sprays, and architectural motifs.
