Made with handwoven wool, this 9x12 contemporary Kilim is a particularly exciting new Rug
Kilim original—representing a custom-capable line of flatweaves with a unique take on vintage and antique Turkish and Persian kilims of the panel-weave style.
On the Design:
Neutrals and earth tones in white and cream underscore a play of both stripes and muted geometric patterns in polychromatic tones. Admirers of the craft will recognize this design’s reimagining of a time-honored technique, in which looms (often those of tribal weavers) would combine several narrow, long columns into a large-size piece. This creates the play of both repetition and not, where each row of stripes is unique, and the look that arises is so personal and distinct each time while still enjoying an overall comfortable, relaxing presence.
Keen eyes will further admire the introduction of a paddle-weave to this technique—recognized by the subtle geometric patterns, almost like a layer of chevrons, one notices connecting the panels.
