Kilim’s Modern Collection—the first edition of a fabulous new series of designs, crafted in one of our most luxurious Nepalese pile qualities.
“Gold Brush” is an almost abstract play of floral patterns, with some influence from the lotuses and cherry blossom trees often seen in Chinese Art Deco sensibilities. A range of warm gold tones underscore a ‘hanging’ branch of beige-brown florals, and an intricate, almost painterly range of subtle color variations like brushstrokes on a canvas.
Admirers of the craft may know this sensibility is inspired by the look of shadows dancing in the light through the trees (sometimes called “Komorebi” in the Japanese term for this principle of illustration and poetry)—an evocative and elegant use of subtlety and dimensionality that speaks to the intricate quality it takes to achieve this effect in a large-scale rug. The silk’s gentle sheen further offers a fabulous play with the light in any space, and brings even more of a sense of movement and luxurious presence in the luster it lends these warm, rich colors and muted patterns.
