About the Item
In this listing you will find a small vintage hand-knotted wool Afghan Adraskand prayer rug. It is characterized by its deep red colors and bold geometric patterns. featuring recurring octagonal or diamond-shaped motifs known as 'guls' or 'elephant's feet', which symbolize tribal identity or good luck. The rug's specific design, featuring a distinct niche or arch shape at one end with vertical floral sprigs, suggests it is a prayer rug, with the arch representing the mihrab (mosque niche) and indicating the direction of Mecca. Made in Afghanistan in the 1950s.
Rug is in very good condition.
