This rug is a hand-knotted Sultanabad wool rug, inspired by 19th-century Persian Ziegler Co. carpets originally produced for the Western market. The design exemplifies the grandeur of the Sultanabad tradition, featuring an intricate allover pattern of stylized palmettes, abstract floral forms, and geometric medallions—rendered in a richly saturated palette of midnight indigo, burnt orange, ivory, camel, and sky blue. The elegant angularity and open field composition make it both historically rooted and visually dynamic. Crafted by skilled artisans in the weaving centers, this piece is made using hand-spun Ghazni wool, prized for its durability, subtle luster, and long fiber length. The wool is dyed using small-batch, vegetable and low-impact chrome-free dyes, resulting in the gentle abrash visible throughout the rug—mimicking the patina of antique pieces. The average knot count is approximately 100 knots per square inch, providing a robust foundation while preserving a soft, pliable handle.
