It was named after the Anglo-Swiss company Ziegler & Co. based in Manchester. From the mid-1880s it was a producer and dealer in carpets from Persia and had production facilities in the Azerbaijan / Tabriz region, Sarough Sultanabad (today Arak) and Mahal. In contrast to the more colorful rugs of earlier eras, Ziegler rugs were made in softer and often lighter tones. The knot density was medium fine, the wool quality very good. Today, original Ziegler carpets are sought-after.
