About the Item

An early 20th century Yomut rug, handwoven in a distinctive tribal vocabulary, with a series o styilizes floral medallions well arranged in a rhytmic manner. The medallions are rended in shades of crimson, white, indigo and orange. The border is particularly compelling, that adds a sense of movement to the composition. Woven by the Yomut Turkmen, a nomadic people near the border with Turkmenistan, traditionally woven by women on ground looms. From my private collection. ref. nr. 199 -
