Hand-knotted in wool and originating from China circa 1920-1930, this 10x17 antique Chinese Art Deco rug is a rare oversized collectible from the 1920s Chinoiserie style period pieces, and one of our new favorite curations.
On the Design:
This rug is a vibrant dialogue between East and West, perfectly embodying the Chinese Art Deco aesthetic that flourished in the 1920s and 30s. The design rejects the dense complexity of traditional Persian rugs for an open, free-flowing composition that became the hallmark of the era.
The expansive field is a tranquil sea of soft sage and deep olive green, a sophisticated backdrop that amplifies the graphic impact of the motifs. A lush, intertwining vine and scroll pattern is traced across the field in luminous beige and light tan, upon which bold flowers and small buds burst forth in saturated crimson and ruby red.
