The lemony gold field, with a dark blue border, shows a characteristic group of Chinese motives, three different hanging ornaments or lanterns, a slender flower vase on a packet of books, a red vase on stand, wrapped by a smoke-emitting dragon; birds and butterflies; and a gourd flask; along with shaded paeonies, lotuses and other seasonal flowers. The field tone is particularly warm and inviting.
This exceptional Chinese Art Deco piece captures the bold aesthetic of the early 20th century, characterized by its striking contrast and open composition. Its generous proportions classify it as a true room size rug, establishing the piece's commanding presence within any sophisticated interior.
