A fascinating mid-19th century Chinese Peking rug with a whimsical pattern of intertwining blossoming tree peonies with birds nestled among the branches, all woven in light and dark indigo, and undyed natural wool in cream tones. The border is unusual, with two Chinese motifs, one is a stylized Fu character and the other is a circular coin motif, both representing "Good Fortune."
