A rare and beautiful antique northern Chinese rug, attributed to the Inner Mongolian region, distinguished by an ivory background decorated in two tones of indigo blue by a 'Shou' medallion (a Chinese ideogram for Longevity), and embellished by auspicious bats and stylised cloubands. The Greek-key outer border imparts a specific dynamics to the composition.
