Kilim—a rich Chinoiserie period piece of the style modern, exemplary of the Jazz Age sensibility of weaving.
On the Design:
This period piece features a particularly rare take on open-field and architectural design in Chinoiserie rugs of its time, where a brown-rust field underscores a floral pattern with some of the most unusual, vibrant colors we’ve seen of this provenance. Admirers of the craft will note the more abstract representation of a sakura tree, floral patterns and a chinoiserie lantern—a more moody, yet equally regal take on the more daytime-oriented rugs known in Chinese Deco.
