73471 Antique Chinese Peking Accent Rug with Neoclassical Chinoiserie Style 03'00 x 05'09. This hand knotted wool antique Chinese Peking rug features an open center medallion with a swirl of peonies and crabapple blossoms floating in the center of an abrashed blue field. Crabapple blossoms and leafy tendrils emanate from the corners of the field. Repeated flushes of apple blossoms make up the principle border design along with peonies in the corners of the border. In Chinese culture, peonies are seen to represent unparalleled beauty, love and affection, and have long been regarded as a symbol of wealth and honor. The word for crabapple, “haitang,” is a homonym for the word for hall or family home. Crabapple blossoms often appear in combination with peonies to suggest the phrase “mantang fugui,” which means, “May the whole family achieve wealth and honor.” The restrained color palette based around shades of blues, creams, and neutral accents, creates a sense of serenity and elegance. With its Classic formal design, well-harmonized color palette, and graceful floral motifs, this antique Chinese Peking rug would be a refined, yet comfortable, addition to any interior. Rendered in variegated shades of royal blue, cerulean, cornflower blue, indigo, navy blue, ink blue, sand, almond, beige, tan, ecru, camel, cream, ivory, sienna, ocher, and coffee.
