At the center lies a striking large medallion, adorned with Fu lion dogs (Foo dogs)—symbols of protection and power—surrounded by elegant cloud wreath motifs, symbolizing peace and celestial harmony. This rug’s composition and style bear a strong resemblance to the revered Ningxia carpets, which originated in the historic Ningxia region—a “wool town” located in north-central China, bordering Gansu and Inner Mongolia. Ningxia rugs have a long history dating back to the 17th century, crafted for use in mandarin residences and aristocratic homes across imperial China.
