77591 Antique Chinese Peking rug with Chinoiserie Chic Style 03'00 x 05'01. This hand-knotted wool antique Chinese Peking rug features a rounded open center medallion floating on an abrashed orange hued field. The medallion is comprised of a swirl of floral motifs with a small rosette in the center. Peonies, chrysanthemums and butterflies gracefully surround the medallion on either end. Peonies are one of the most treasured symbols throughout Chinese art and design; the flower is seen to represent unparalleled beauty and honor, while chrysanthemums represent long life. Butterflies are thought to represent happiness. Delicate scrollwork adorns the spandrels, echoing the floral tendrils and butterfly shapes in the field design. A gorgeous traditional peony and butterfly border frames the composition flanked with an inner Greek T-meander guard band. With its elegance and versatility, this antique Chinese Peking rug would be a tasteful addition to any interior. Rendered in variegated shades of orange, navy blue, light green, beige, royal blue, ink blue, and brown with other accent colors.
