77330 Antique Chinese Peking Rug with Romantic Chinoiserie Style 04'01 x 06'09. This hand-knotted wool antique Chinese Peking rug features a rounded open floral medallion floating in the center of an abrashed blue field surrounded by a constellation of small botanical motifs. The most prominent decorative element that abounds throughout this piece is the beloved symbol of the peony flower. The peony, known in Mandarin as “Mudan,” is regarded in Chinese culture as the King of the Flowers. The large showy blossoms are thought to possess unparalleled beauty and are considered an emblem of wealth and honor. The gorgeous flowers and their foliage expertly adorn the field, spandrels, and border accompanied by small lotus and crabapple blossoms sprinkled throughout. The ornate floral arrangements used throughout the field and main border are offset by a simpler and more delicate pearl dot inner guard border that adds balance to the composition. With its refined detailing, elegant composition, and classic color combination centered on calming shades of blues and creams, this timeless antique Chinese Peking rug would bring a sense of sophisticated tranquility to nearly any interior.
