About the Item
This is an extremely rare pictorial Peking rug woven in China during the end of the 19th century circa 1890 in measures 205 x120 CM in size. This pictorial rug is extremely unique and depicts a member of the royal family sitting and gazing at a fruit in her hand. The golden background color of this rug was exclusively used for the royal family of China and shows that this rug was specially ordered and not something made for export or the market. The border of this rug is made simply by using a solid blue line outlining that creates a frame around the field. This piece has an overall pastel color palette which includes different hues of blue, green, orange, red, and black. It has been preserved and overall great condition retaining its full lustrous silky pile and is only missing its finishing tassels.
