About the Item
This magnificent Chinese carpet knotted in the last century with silk and metal thread on a cotton warp and weft measuring 176x123 cm, is designed with the dual possibility of being laid on the ground or hung like a tapestry. The background of the field entirely made with golden metal thread illuminates and enhances the figurative motifs that are in relief. The fenghuang, misleadingly also called Chinese phoenix, in Chinese mythology is an immortal bird whose rare appearance is said to be an omen foretelling harmony and peace. On the scene is the crane with her red-spotted head which symbolizes spiritual wisdom. The frame is divided into reciprocal segments connected by flower corollas inscribed in small rosettes. The fringes are woven with macramè, a technique as old as the art of hand weaving itself. Consider this piece of art as a very refined choice!.
