Taking center stage are cloisonné vases decorated with elegant floral sprays spread across the lovingly time-worn burnt orange field. Additional botanical motifs decorate the field, while delicate blooms and floral vases emanate from the corners. Natural abrash gradations authenticate this antique Chinese Peking rug while adding dimension and visual interest to the understated yet impactful design. The lovely main border and guard band display a variety of vase and Shou motifs— including Ruyi clouds, pagoda buildings, and an ancient fret Meander design called leiwen or “thunder pattern.” This pattern interlaces the wan symbol, a Chinese character meaning “ten thousand,” with a winding key design that symbolizes long life and never-ending joy.
