About the Item

This handwoven 9 x 12 flat-weave joins the European Collection by Rug Kilim—this design paying homage to Aubusson floral rug patterns of renown in the history of hand-made European carpet traditions. This design draws key influence from an exceptionally rare 18th century Aubusson rug style, notable in our efforts to recreate the hand-spun yarn akin to the lack of machine-spun creations in this period and the masterpieces that resulted from this labor of love. The natural play of gold and cream-beige notes brings out the regal appeal and meticulous attention to detail in the floral medallions, capturing the appealing juxtaposition of sharp definition with soft curvilinear elements complementing the repetition in this remarkable flat weave. Originating from one of our most reputed long-standing partner looms in China. About the Collection: Equal to any pillar of our collections, our European category encompasses some of Josh’s favorite selections reflecting with time-honored and contemporary designs from as early as the 17th century and onward.
