This elegant vintage Chinese rug is a classic example of the Peking style, woven in the late 20th century during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic era (circa 1980–1990).
Design:
The rug features a spacious beige field, keeping the center beautifully open and calm.
Each corner is adorned with floral sprays in deep and light blue tones, symbolizing prosperity and harmony.
A wide border of scrolling floral vines frames the rug, showcasing lotus and peony blossoms—traditional Chinese emblems of nobility, purity, and renewal.
The limited color palette of soft neutrals with rich indigo blues reflects both timeless Chinese artistry and the Western Art Deco.
History:
Peking rugs emerged as a distinctive style in Beijing, evolving from earlier Ningxia weaving traditions. Unlike Persian carpets with dense all-over patterns, Peking rugs emphasized open space, balance, and tranquility—deeply rooted in Chinese aesthetics.
During the 1920s and 1930s, these rugs became highly sought-after in Europe and America. Their elegant simplicity and harmony of color made them perfect companions for both traditional Chinese interiors and modern Western homes. This piece was recreate once again in the late 20th. Century
