Hand knotted in high-quality wool originating from India in 1890, this antique Amritsar rug enjoys traditional elements of the Herati “fish” design in its field and highly stylized, symbolic lotus palmette border symbols (widely believed to represent rebirth). The themes of rejuvenation in the histories of both symbols complement the agricultural, beige-brown colorways, as well as the exceptionally regal, minimally distressed field lending this piece its ornate, individualistic beauty.
