Large size antique Indian Amritsar rug, Country Of Origin: India, circa 1900 – Size: 14 ft 5 in x 18 ft 8 in (4.39 m x 5.69 m)
A large size classic Persian Heriz or Serapi rug design provides the point of departure for this elegant and reserved antique Indian Amritsar carpet. A grand medallion and corner-pieces emitting jutting vines and palmettes dominates the field, with the bold angular drawing comparable to the best Serapi. But unlike the Persian carpets with such designs, this carpet does not apply a vibrant palette of reds, blues and greens. Rather, it displays a subdued palette of gentle mauve, cocoa, tan, and gold in field and border alike, which makes it a first-rate decorative carpet.
