About the Item

Originating from India in 1900, this antique transitional Amritsar wool rug bears distinct similarities to Agra pieces referred to as jail rugs. Hand knotted in high quality wool, the design’s similarity may denote mixing English and Indian wool with higher quality yarn to produce this rich burgundy background and beige-golden field design, adorned with lancet leaves in the field and distinct lotus patterns in the richer middle border.
