This 5x6 antique Indian shawl is an exciting and rare new curation from Rug
Kilim—handwoven in wool and hailing from India circa 1860-1870. Its design enjoys Art Nouveau sensibilities, and an outstanding level of detail, among its many beauties.
On the Design:
A teal blue tone in both the medallion and field underscores all over floral patterns in rich burgundy red and magenta tones, with an impressive range of colors (and a particular emphasis on bright green and gold tones therein). Admirers of the craft will particularly enjoy the deft execution of such thin, curvaceous patterns, both in the paisleys and the many cypress trees, medallions, and other traditional motifs in the field and borders alike. It’s a true collector’s piece of folk art and history, and its versatile size is especially well suited to vast interior design applications welcoming its regal beauty.
