This exquisite antique Indian Agra runner from the early 20th century showcases the refined artistry and masterful craftsmanship of traditional North Indian rug weaving. Likely a preserved fragment of a larger palace carpet, this runner features a rich and complex allover design rooted in Mughal aesthetics, adapted to the long, narrow format.
Set against a deep indigo ground, the design exhibits a symmetrical network of stylized floral and vine motifs rendered in warm, earthy tones of caramel, camel, ivory, and walnut. Prominent boteh-like blossoms and palmettes are entwined with angular vinery, radiating outward in rhythmic, mirrored clusters. The composition evokes the grandeur of Persian-influenced Agra weaving, with its precision and visual density.
Framed by a series of ornate borders, the main border features a scrolling tendril pattern in soft neutrals that echo the central motifs, while narrower guard borders introduce geometric rosettes and stylized crosses that lend contrast and movement.
