About the Item
This 6x6 square textile is an antique Indian shawl of outstanding detail, handwoven in wool and originating from India circa 1920-1930. Its design is an exemplary find among works of its make and provenance, as well as an exciting new curation from Rug
Kilim’s collection of Oriental accessories.
On the Design:
A rich burgundy underscores floral patterns around an ebony black medallion with eight prongs—a marriage of medallion and all over style with incredibly fine detail, color variation and curvaceous execution of paisleys and similar motifs. Admirers of the craft and keen eyes will further note how the dyes have aged so beautifully (both in the saturated reds, bright blues and impressive range of rich and vibrant hues in between). It’s a grand piece of folk art, both extremely collectible for the connoisseur and equally versatile in its size and sensibility for designers welcoming this regal traditional look.

This antique shawl further enjoys very good condition for its age and origin—exclusively for use in wall-hanging projects only.
