This modern rug shows that minimalistic solutions paired with relatively new techniques give outstanding effects and it is worth experimenting even with centuries-old, venerable crafts like that of carpet weaving. Its soft yet utterly durable body was made in Nuno felting, which is a fabric felting method developed by Polly Stirling, a fiber artist from New South Wales, Australia, around 1992.
The name is derived from the Japanese word “Nuno” meaning cloth. The technique bonds loose fibers, usually wool, into a sheer fabric such as silk gauze, creating a lightweight felt. In case of this contemporary flat-weave wool rug, the fibers completely cover the background fabric forming a uniform structure, divided into rectangles by raised seams.
There is no figurative pattern or borders. The simplistic design in rendered in a versatile and absolutely chic shade of dark slate gray with bluish undertones. Such a universal modern rug will easily match a wide array of interior arrangements, neatly dividing the space and bringing in a touch of timeless elegance.
