American Hooked Rugs
Contemporary American Hooked carpet utilizing strips of fabric to compose designs that express the tradition of hooked carpets in modern colors and materials for a final product that is both durable and comfortable under foot.
The direction of the zig zag pattern in this handmade hooked rug creates the illusion of diamonds through the high contrast of soft neutrals and deep greens. There's an energetic motion to the piece. Hand hooked with purpose.
Though the technique is likely ancient, the Hooked Carpet that we have come to know and love today has a distinctly American style - its practice becoming widespread through the American Northeast and Canadian Maritime Provinces as burlap became a more accessible material.
