Made with hand-knotted wool in India, this 9x15 antique Agra rug originating in the late 19th century is an exciting new oversized addition to Rug
Kilim’s classic curations, as well as an incredibly rare double-sided rug like few known in this celebrated weaving tradition.
On the Design:
This piece hosts a navy blue field underscoring intricate floral patterns in red, gold, and beige-brown hues, with a particular accent of salmon tones in the field and borders alike. Admirers of the craft will note what a particular special find any two-sided carpet is, but especially one of such a deft hand, unusual large size and such finely drawn patterns as this piece enjoys. Radiating with a traditional sensibility influenced by both Persian and Mughal design elements, this late 19th century Agra rug has aged beautifully and offers a window into the royal aesthetics of the past. Its marriage of color and comfortable, sophisticated pattern in such versatile size and excellent craftsmanship are all exemplary of R&K Principal’s personal favorite Agra carpets of this period.

This antique Agra rug further enjoys good condition for its age and lineage, and is fully reversible given its uncommon double-sided weaving—a collectible find.
