Hand-knotted in wool, this 6x9 modern Bauhaus rug from India, is inspired by the designs of Anni and Josef Albers and the same iconic collective that’s known for inspiring so many other artists and movements.
On the Design:
This particular rug draws on the particular aesthetic inspiration of Anni and Josef Albers, known to favor this very architectural, minimal geometric pattern that explores color in such a recognizable, unique modernist way. A field divided between rich brown and bright white underscores geometric patterns in red, blue, and green tones, enjoying the linework that would become synonymous with the Albers hand and many of their master works. Admirers of the craft will note that, like its many influences, such a work remains extremely modern to this day, and just as easily inspires moods of the Mid-Century Modern and Art Deco movements as well
