This custom rug sample represents a new and exciting design in Rug
Kilim's Chinese Art Deco rug collection; a colorful botanical design, inspired by 1920s period pieces and other rare vintage and antique rug designs of the iconic Chinoiserie aesthetic.
On the Design:
This custom rug sample features a fusion of Eastern botanical motifs and Western modernist sensibilities characteristic of Chinese Art Deco design. The design presents stylized foliage elements with precisely rendered leaf forms in deep forest green against a variegated background of earth tones. The design employs a deliberately asymmetrical arrangement with botanical elements concentrated along the left edge, creating dynamic negative space throughout the composition.
The colorway exhibits subtlety with a neutral taupe ground punctuated by sage green leaf clusters and selective coral-pink color blocks that create visual depth. This design exemplifies the early 20th century Chinese adaptation of traditional botanical imagery through modernist principles of abstraction and compositional freedom, capturing the essence of the Chinese Art Deco movement that flourished in Shanghai and other cosmopolitan centers during the 1920s-1930s.
