Made with hand-knotted wool, this 9x12 rug is a bold new addition to Rug
Kilim’s Chinese Art Deco rug collection—a contemporary reimagining of 1920s period pieces and rare vintage and antique rug designs in the iconic Chinoiserie sensibility.
On the Design:
The design pivots on a central oval and interlocking arcs rendered in sage green, olive, taupe, and warm rust, boasting an impressive range of colors and subtle variations within. These curving planes evoke Cubist and Futurist influences, suggesting motion and dimensional layering—principles exemplary of the unique works of Art Deco so ahead of their time and modern even by today’s standards. At each corner, intricate triangular inserts resemble architectural spandrels or stylized sails, woven with intricate hatch marks and mosaic-like tessellations—a range of unexpected shapes with a fabulous sense of movement that lend this piece its graphic, dramatic charm and presence alike.
