These photos represent a recently sold 9x12 Art Deco rug with an inviting new approach to the texture, unexpected hues, and abstract form of 1920s European period pieces of the iconic movement. Here, a play of cream white, gray and light blue tones underscores a play of medallion and abstract floral patterns, with an elegant presence and fine detail the keen eye will note. Admirers of the craft will further note the subtle high-low texture married to the pattern, which lends it a fabulous contemporary sense of depth and dimensionality. This, as well as the more formidable, durable body of the pile, represent many contributions to the aesthetic in this line, and speak R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s goal to honor the many artists and weavers behind this movement with a bold new high-end rug for today’s interiors.
