Kilim is an exciting reimagining of an extremely rare turn-of-the-century antique Art Nouveau rug design—an elegant French design drawing key inspiration from the iconic works of Hector Guimard, reimagined in the luxurious new quality of our Modern Classics Collection.
On the Design:
This majestic piece is a brilliant adaptation of fine curvature to a large scale, distinctly reflecting the Parisian interpretation of Art Nouveau designs that would go on to influence so many other artist movements in the early 20th century soon after. Admirers of the craft may appreciate this rug’s resemblance to a similar carpet design in Guimard’s works, namely from 1897 for the Castel Béranger in the 'Fonds Guimard' at the Musée d'Orsay—a piece of design history and one of the most sophisticated atelier collections of its time.
