Kilim’s custom-classics Burano collection is inspired by antique Khotan Samarkand rugs of East Turkestan, known to favor Buddhist imagery and similar oriental motifs.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will appreciate this piece’s more unexpected, colorful modern adaptation of the geometric floral patterns of Khotan rugs. Here, a deep blue field and border underscores palmettes, lotus medallions, and a variety of other celebrated motifs in a wide range of bright hues—with especially present gold, pink, and beige-brown tones the keen eye will admire. The especially soft, comfortable texture and impressionistic beauty inherent to the Ghazni wool is another contemporary element of note, and the soul of this collection therein; an intentional contribution to a classic for a comfortable, yet smart and sophisticated new language in design.
