This magnificent 3x15 runner rug from Rug
Kilim’s Modern Classics Collection is a striking abstract piece featuring a continuous, cyclical pattern of interlocking octagonal and circular motifs. The design uses bold color contrast, setting warm rings of orange and gold against cool fields of gray and lavender.
On the Design:
This dramatic runner rug is a work of art of cyclical, abstract geometry, transforming a functional space into a gallery of color and form. Hand-knotted in wool and silk, the design is a sophisticated and highly stylized deconstruction of the traditional medallion format.
The design is inspired by antique Mamluk rugs of some of the most sought-after medallion designs, reimagined with some of the most unexpected, refreshing modern colors. It r features a continuous, repeating pattern of interlocking octagonal and circular motifs, creating a powerful sense of rhythm and movement down the length of the hall. The design utilizes bold color blocking and contrasting temperatures: warm rings of vivid orange, coral, and antique gold are set against cool, muted fields of soft gray, lavender, and faded taupe. Subtle lines and angular accents in yellow-gold enhance the mosaic-like precision of the geometric structure.
The entire surface is treated with an intentional color wash, giving the bold, modern geometry a time-worn, antique patina. This masterful finish softens the lines and causes the colors to beautifully bleed and blend.
