This 8x10 Modern Classics rug, inspired by Mamluk rug designs, features geometric and floral patterns in a play of all over and medallion style, underscored by gray and white tones on a black warp.
On the Design:
One fundamental idea that our Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal has long taught to his colleagues and teammates is that the best handmade modern rugs are made after one masters the classics. One such masterpiece is this modern rug which draws inspiration from Mamluk designs, which have a rich history to them as well, though admirers of the craft may appreciate a Mogul (or Mughal) sensibility to the design (which has shared elements in these provenances that favor this architectural, elaborate style and dense pattern)—all beautifully adapted to these brighter, more cool modern colors and a more durable hand-knotted wool construction for today’s interiors.
Altogether it’s a piece as deeply personal in its subtext as it is in the details and beauties that distinguish it in our craft—both a masterpiece and a true collector’s rug, teeming with history and culture.
