This hand knotted 9 x 12 rug represents the latest additions to the Mid-Century Modern collection by Rug Kilim, a bold custom-capable line recapturing an underrepresented, iconic period with an entirely new approach to large scale, drawing, varied color and refined texture. The way the subtle colorways blend into each other in this particular rug creates a sense of movement entirely distinctive, never seen in this scale before with these industrial-meets-modernist hues of gold and silver-gray colorways. The juxtaposition of geometry and superimposition achieves a dimensionality entirely unique to this line, complemented by the blend of wool and silk in that the natural sheen of the latter lends a sheen to the metallic hues similarly juxtaposed with the reserved variations of brown and terracotta; the sum portrait catching light with a degree of control keeping with the arresting nature of this modern rug. Originating from one of our most reputed long-standing partner looms in India. About the collection: The Mid-Century Modern collection by Rug Kilim represents founder Josh Nazmiyal’s hope to honor the iconic aesthetic pioneered by designers of the 1950s in the limelight of modern design. These newly released additions represent the first major production of midcentury style fabric patterns as custom, high-quality luxury rugs in our collaboration with both established and up-and-coming artists sharing our passion for the style. The collection is the product of several years researching and refining our approach to large-scale drawing, texture, and color in a constantly refined method of capturing the pattern. These new additions marry Postwar and atomic age design sensibilities with new design elements as our team collaborates with foundations representing the pioneers of the design as well as contemporary artists sharing Josh’s passion for the historic style.
