Kilim’s Modern Classics Collection—a series of contemporary rugs by one of the most talented ateliers and designers in the craft, made with hand-knotted all-natural silk of the utmost quality in handweaving today.
On the Design:
Each piece in this collection is a unique reimagining of traditional designs and antique rugs in one of the most luxurious new qualities and high knot counts available today. This particular rug is entitled “Ghapi”—likely in honor of its inspiration from the famed Chahar-Ghapi historical monument of the Sassanian kings—and witnesses a sophisticated interplay of pastel tones like beige, light purple, cream, and sky blue. Upon a rich creamy beige backdrop is a large central medallion with intricate floral patterns in a mesmerizing, almost kaleidoscopic sensibility, flanked by curvilinear forms and floral arabesques reminiscent of classic Persian design sensibilities. Admirers of the craft and keen eyes will recognize the fine execution of such a classic elegance with a contemporary touch, recognizable as one of the most rich new creations from any atelier on the bleeding edge of handweaving.
