This 4x6 rug represents a bold new line of Rug Kilim’s Modern Classics Collection—a series of contemporary rugs by one of the most talented ateliers and designers in the craft, made with hand-knotted all-natural silk of the utmost quality in handweaving today. On the Design: Each piece in this collection is a unique reimagining of traditional designs and antique rugs in one of the most luxurious new qualities and high knot counts available today. This particular rug—entitled “As Geshniz”—enjoys a play of floral and geometric patterns in rich brown, turquoise blue, red, black, and green tones. The marriage of the brilliant sheen of silk, a regal colorway, along with sharp geometric patterns make for a very unique look, and an almost new way of offering patterns with such an influence from traditional provenances. The sharp medallion-like motifs carry an almost kaleidoscopic quality, with a fabulous sense of movement that begs the eye to hunt for the details and subtleties that makes this piece so outstanding today.
