This 9x12 rug from the new line of the Modern Collection by Rug
Kilim is hand-knotted in a luxurious blend of wool and silk. A central pattern of ivory floral motifs with hints of oxidized blue-green is dramatically and intentionally obscured by a monolithic overlay of deep chocolate brown, exemplifying a masterful twin-weave technique.
On the Design:
This dramatic rug is a commanding statement, embodying a sophisticated tension achieved through an immediate, unexpected approach to field and border structure. Admirers of the craft will immediately notice the classic elements of a floral repeat and lattice pattern in the light-colored "ground". This traditional foundation, rendered primarily in striking ivory and creamy white, is subtly layered with hints of muted, oxidized blue-green, hinting at the textile's complex history. This delicate, textured ground is then subjected to a masterful technique of twin weaves. The dominant background and frame are formed by an entire, separate weave applied through and atop the patterned ground.
