About the Item

Hand-knotted in a luxurious blend of wool and silk, this 9x12 rug from Rug Kilim’s Modern Classics Collection represents a new line inspired by vintage and antique Oushak rugs. On the Design: One fundamental idea that R K Principal, Jahanshah Nazmiyal has long taught to his colleagues and teammates is that the best handmade modern rugs are made after one masters the classics. This piece is our collection’s contribution to classic styles reinterpreted completely in a modern fashion, reflecting a modern interpretation of “ushak” design, sometimes spelled “Oushak” in our craft. The piece features a burgundy field, a dark blue border, and overall vibrant polychromatic floral patterns married to a high-and-low texture, absolutely maximalist in its graphic, playful take on a traditional design. The weave is particularly fine, too—a luxurious new contribution to Oushak designs, as the silk’s gentle, natural sheen and its play with the light. It’s both an elegant choice for the modern space and a thoughtful contribution to one of the most regal provenances in handmade Oriental rugs.
