These photos represent a recently sold 17x17 custom rug, and a bold new exploration of dimensionality and depth in the subtle marriage of pattern and texture in a contemporary tribal rug. Against a rich chocolate brown field, geometric diamond elements in ivory and beige create a design that speaks to both Berber weaving traditions and modern sensibilities. Admirers of the craft will particularly appreciate the primitivist sensibility in the geometry—much like Berber lozenge motifs and the diamond-like lattices they formed, teeming with the rippling sense of repetition and boldness they enjoy.
