Hand-knotted in wool, this 12x18 modern rug named “Shield” reflects its inspiration from antique Oriental rugs with “shield” designs—a particular style of large-scale floral medallions seen in several Persian rug provenances, Caucasian rugs, Oushaks and other celebrated weaving traditions.
On the Design:
One fundamental idea that our Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal has long taught to his colleagues and teammates is that the best handmade modern rugs are made after one masters the classics. One such masterpiece is this featured modern rug inspired by antique Oriental rugs. The design features beige-brown, pale green and gold tones underscore the field and border alike, both of which enjoy the shield-style medallions and other floral patterns in these varied hues. Admirers of the craft may admire the sharp detail in its designs, which is extremely difficult to achieve in both this spacious large size and scale, making it among the most regal and celebrated in classic Oriental rugs of the origin.
