This 5x8 rug is an exciting new addition to the Outdoor line of Rug
Kilim’s Scandinavian rug collection—a contemporary reimagining of Swedish minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions, handwoven in a unique blend of performance yarns with exterior design in mind.
On the Design:
This new outdoor rug reinvents vintage Scandinavian Kilim in ways that both honor the Swedish minimalist aesthetic and modernize its construction. Our intricate blend of yarns, for example, lends a subtle striae with more of a sense of movement and depth—a subtle nod to Röllakan techniques in a modern fashion. The choice of colors, too, explores their retro feel in a more refreshed quality; this particular Kilim enjoys grey, beige, and off-white colorways with a cool, almost shabby-chic sense of beauty to it. It’s a smart balance of new and chic that brings mid-century geometric patterns a fabulous new look and feel.
Our flatweave further enjoys a thick, more durable body than any flatweave in high-end rugs. It’s a hallmark of our Kilim design, and another contemporary contribution to the Scandinavian aesthetic that sits comfortably anywhere. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic through more comfortable, current techniques.
